    Thanks for the welcome folks.
    Will be back later.
BTW is it possible to post more than one Avatar? The one currently on here is from 1964 or thereabouts, and I would also like to post one that was taken last year (2010). If I'd have posted the latest one first, people I knew yonks ago (when living in Leeds) may not recognise me now - as if anyone would give a toss anyway :icon_lol: but you never know.....We all change with the passage of time.

    Thanks Dervish99.
What a great pity.I reckoned it was a good idea and often thought about this when I've seen pics of people that I've known, but who have changed so much that they have been barely recognisable after many years and I've thought - can this REALLY be him/her?
    Oh well.......... Sod it!

    Hi nevben.
Yes,you could fill me in with the latest in Beeston.I lived in Parkfield Mount late 50's early 60's. Really enjoyed my time there.Used to socialise with a number of nice people some/all of whom may have moved on by now. There's a pic in the Y.E.P showing a shop at the corner of Parkfeld Mt at the junction with Beeston Road.My brain must be addled 'cos I don't even remember there being a shop there......How sad!
I bought a 2000cc Standard Vanguard Vignale from a garage in Domestic Street towards the end of my time there.Used to go all over the place trying out pubs here there and everywhere - no Drink/Drive laws then of course.

Bloody small world M8. I live in Parkfield Mount now at the main road end of the street. I have lived in Beeston since the mid 80's and as I recall there was a printer, stationers on the left hand side and on the right was Norman Fletchers butchers. Of your pals when you lived here, there are still a few people of simular age who are born and bred here Brian Newton being one that springs to mind. Across the road from me lives a man who has lived in the same house since 1958, he can tell a tale or two when you call round. My Email addy is nevillebenidorm@mail.com, is you have a specific question that might be a better medium

    Hi Malcom.
The club is still there and as far as I know the man who was steward is still alive Bob Rickerby. I do not recognise any of the names, but I know a lot of people from the club by face as oppose to name. I will enquire about the names you sent when I am in the club next. The club are now the proud owners outright and I think that the political influence in the name has no real bearing.
In relation to the chippy, it has been a chinese for about 10 years. The bakery further down the road has been closed for quite a while, due to ill health.
The Post office at the top of the Grove was close in the Post Office cuts.
Sadly the parade of shops on Beeston Road is now mainly Take Aways. Can't think of much else at the moment, but any questions plase ask. Having problems with the private messenger M8 Cheers Nev

Thanks for all the info nevben. The Steward at the club when I was around was John Dix (or was that Dicks?) and his wife Edie.Lovely couple with a lovely daughter called Pat.
Shame about how things have changed so much in the area:icon_sad:
