I recall it, I would very much like to FINISH recording there one day!

I'm not after recommendations, by the way, I need a complete list. It's for something I'm doing at work.

I work at The Chairworks in Castleford, it's about 15-20 minutes from leeds city centre.

We have some fantastic facilities, arguably some of the best in the country. We also do some really great work here.

Plenty of options though! Many great forum members who have already posted here are studio owners.

Supposing sound engineering and producing music is a skilled profession (no seriously, for a minute) as a recording engineer you could expect to get £10-12 an hour bare minimum because otherwise you would have to do your day job to pay the bills. So 5 tracks, recorded mixed and mastered in as many hours is some pretty intense work for somebody. No time for a meal. Or a smoke if thats your thing. Just coffee and stress. So you'd think that you can't possibly get decent results at that price. However, being perfectionists, recording engineers like to take more time than this. In reality it takes as long as it takes. Hence you get value for money and they dont get out much.
Its less about price and more about track record. If you like the sound of stuff thats already been recorded with a particular studio/engineer, then go with that.
Aside from that, space. If there is enough space to record most of it "live", this will help. Smaller studios charge less per hour but tracking could actually take longer because the claustrophobic atmosphere impedes your performance, you need more takes. Ideally, for demo purposes, you'd record a gig, because thats the best atmosphere for performance, but its a technical nightmare.

    Panacea Recordings - Leeds http://www.panacearecordings.com/index.php

Frankly, I'm amazed that it isn't on this list. I got introduced to Panacea Recordings through a friend and was absolutely blown away by the quality of the equipment and the standard of production in this purpose built studio. I have been in numerous cheap and mid-range studios over the years and have found that, for the most part, you get what you pay for. Panacea seems to be the exception to this rule (assuming that they are still offering sessions at the same price).

I think that they are relatively new and offering cheap sessions in order to build a reputation (good plan!) so I advise you to get in there ASAP while the going is still good.

I know I'm a bit late to the party.

But I recorded at Small World Studios in Haworth. The producer, Luke, really knows his equipment, his rooms and his acoustics so well.
It's a small control room and live room set up, really professional looking, but it has a pretty casual vibe.
Luke knew when I needed a push and he had me figured out pretty quickly and knew what to say to get me playing at my best.

He's really great to work with, his facility is great and he has really competitive rates.

Hi There - If I could add my studio to the directory that would be great. Not leeds based but Rotherham in South Yorkshire. Most of my work is Indie/alt rock based these days, but have done tons of metal & hardcore in the past
