    Music of the Mystics
    Sunday 3rd July 2016
    8.00 pm

St Michael and all Angels, Headingley
    St Michael's Rd, Leeds LS6 3AW

St Peter's Singers present a short recital of works most of which are settings of poems which might be loosely termed 'mystical', including texts by George Herbert, William Blake, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Robert Southwell, Richard Crashaw, and St Peter's Singers' own Hannah Stone.

The programme combines a second theme, namely music written by or for members of the choir and its conductor, including Philip Moore's Evening Hymn and David Hill's O Salutaris Hostia, composed for a volume honouring Dr Simon Lindley's 65th birthday, and works by choir members Alasdair Jamieson and Matthew Oglesby.

The recital will follow shortly after Choral Evensong (6.30pm) which will be sung by the combined choirs of St. Michael's Headingley and St Peter's Singers, featuring music by Edward Bairstow, Charles Villiers Stanford and Henry Balfour Gardiner.
