How do the prices for these acts compare with other non-council funded venues? Have prices been announced yet?

I understand Leeds rate payers will get a 20% discount on all tickets, this is really good..

Not my cup of tea so far, but it's new so hopefully lots more to come after these kick things off next year. Me and hubby drove past it last night and were saying it's a fair size and I think seats around 13k so should pull in some of the bigger names.

I'm still more inclined to go to smaller more intimate venues like brudenell social club but have to see what acts play there, its another option I guess and bigger bands are more likely to come to Leeds ,which is a good thing....

The opening act has now been announced ....

    Elton John.

The concert will take place on Wednesday 4 September 2013. The fully reserved seated concert will give 12,000 fans the opportunity to dance and sing along to his much-loved songs in this new state of the art arena.

Leeds Arena to stage the only UK indoor show by Elton John in 2013 and it will be the first time in nearly 30 years Elton and his band have performed in Leeds.

“Our opening season will showcase the range of acts we are capable of accommodating as bookings are now starting to come in thick and fast. Already we have Leeds’ own Kaiser Chiefs and the very popular JLS booked in and another announcement imminent soon. With shows on there up to one night in three, there’s really going to be something for everyone.”

    Elton John said:

“It is difficult to believe that it has taken so long for such a large city to get its own arena, but it has certainly been worth the wait. I am delighted to have been invited to be one of the first artists to perform in what will be a wonderful new venue.”

“I recently played to incredible audiences in North Yorkshire, but this will be the first time I have played Leeds with the band since 1984 when I played at the Queens Hall, so I am really looking forward to playing to the City of Leeds once again.”

Tickets for the Wednesday 4 September show go on sale Friday 7 December at 9am, priced from £65.00.

Having spent many years travelling to larger gigs allover the U.K. and Europe, it will be great to see some of the best performers in the world right on my doorstep. OK some of the tickets will expensive, but tickets generally are more expensive these days for most events and anything under £50 I consider par for the course. When you factor in things like travel costs and the convenience of having a venue like this right on our doorstep then it all begins to balance out. One major factor for me enjoying a night out is doing as little travel as I need to and knowing where the venue is. And don't even get me started on car parks....

I prefer the intimacy of smaller venues like the cockpit and brudenell social club ,where you can often meet the band after the gig ,also ticket prices and booze are relatively more reasonably priced also, its good to have the choice of seeing a bigger band locally in a bigger venue also I guess, the new arena does look like some kinda crazy psychedelic fishbowl...

I tend to agree on smaller venues, i am wondering how much bottled water will be after they take mine off me at the gates which is typical! I actually like the academy as well.

You don't get much bigger than Elton John (Elton, if you're looking in, I wasn't referring to your weight), I think he is an ideal act to kick off with!:thumbs2:
