After the announcement the other week about the impending demise of the forum or merger call it what you will, there was a flurry of posts and discussion. For a time it was really good. Now we are back to virtually nothing. Are there so few of us that a holiday makes the difference or is no one really that bothered or perhaps posts on other forums.

Surely there must be something to get everyone going. Its going to be a real shame to see this go and I cant see it being much better in the merged board.

Hopefully a merged board will bring in the members from there to swell our ranks.

I hope so there are a lot of good posters with good things to say. It would be a shame to see everything fall by the wayside.

I really hope not! Maybe it would be worth looking into merging with a Leeds united/Rhinos forum to really make it into a destination forum? But that i only if other forums would want to collaborate! I hope it keep going

Maybe all of these sites are too specialised. Its a general discussion board for people where everything can be discussed is what gets people interested. We have seen it on here when there is a controversial subject that gets peoples danders up the hit rates rise considerably. In the end it usually fizzles out because people start to feel threatened and intimidated by the discussion which in itself is counter productive because people then stop posting altogether. I think people misunderstand what discussion and debate is about. No one has to be right and everyone can have an opinion. The challenge and the fun is holding your own and stating your case in a logical manner. People sometimes confuse debtate with a person wanting to be right and being obstinate.

Is this the problem have people given up posting for this reason.

Its certainly food for thought plus peoples attention spans are shorter witness facebook where people post on a minute by minute basis and its mainly very trivial output often with appaling language to embelish these outpourings, people live their day to day lives on this medium , sensible conversation isnt warranted ,overall many individuals dont wjsh to engage in debate or argument as they probably view this as overly time consuming ,therefore forums of this ilk rely on a small neucleus of contributors to keep the momentum as it were ,i enjoy several forums and in the main there are regular members who are always in post with occasional input from the periphery, plus lots of us lead busy lives in the race and therefore having limited time to go online and visit Forums .

I tend to see facebook as more of a conversation rather than a discussion forum. Quick brief exchanges rather than long and more formal posts. I am in a local group and through it I have made new friends and gone on to actually meet up with them in real life.

However, I am in some groups where lengthy posts are preferred and serious discussion can take place.

Forums are fragile though, if the merge means people have to re-register, in my experience of other forums, a lot of people won't bother. That could kill this place faster than anything.

One of the biggest disinsentives of using this forum is the inability to post up images in threads like most other forums do allow. The ability to post images (photos etc) seems to be one of the biggest spurs of discussion on other forums - the lack of images on here is like seeing in black and white. Just my two pennies worth.

Hi I have just returned from holiday, I enjoy the discussion and you are quite correct discussion should be controversial it is good to receive other ideas and occasionally to throw in a comment and see what happens. I also agree it pictures may make it more interesting.

I think forums in general are becoming quieter, I use various fishing forums and they too seem to be getting less use.

It would be a pity if we lost the forum. I would be very sad, it is only one of the few places where I can keep contact to my old home! but I am one of the people that does not discuss much. I only read what other people have to say. I'm a lazy old so and so!!!:hey:

I agree. Although I have never lived in Leeds, I have visited quite often. At one time I used to come over from Bradford every Tuesday to hear the (free!) lunchtime organ recitals and, before we moved to the wrong side of the Pennines, I used to come to Leeds for shopping and so on. I still have an interest in what I regard as the best city in the country and like to hear about what's going on.

I, too, think it would be good to have the facility to post pictures. Another forum I visit permits pictures to be posted simply by dragging from desktop to the post (regardless of size - it automatically reduces size if necessary). I don't know how that works, but it's a lot easier than copying location details and adding to a gallery before copying details from there to the post (and reducing file size on the way), which is as long-winded as it sounds!

That is unacceptable: it is one thing to reject your request, but to ignore it is simply ignorant.
    Ask again.

But, Mr TempleDene, you are stated to be a/the forum admin. Does that not grant you certain powers to change the forum?

And also, not wishing to be pushy, but do you do hashtag symbol jewellery (see my earlier post)? Tell me to shut up if you'd rather not discuss it, but at least let me know you've seen it!

I would miss this site were it to close or become more difficult to navigate. The healthy discussions are educational and this site provides such a place . I must admit that my participation is minimal. As stated above, there are so many other avenues available where one can vent frustrations. On the lighter side I recently watched a video about Hitler's anger at not been able to visit Leeds. Maybe it was on Facebook ? In spite of the rough language ,it gave me a much appreciated laugh. I suspect this comment is out of place,but...... I had an uncle that I respected a great deal and he told me that " even though a person has a different opinion, it doesn't necessary mean he is wrong."
