wouldn't surprise me - would be well deserved if they did.

I was misinformed - it IS at The Wardrobe.
We're on on Thursday 3rd July. if anyone wants tickets, drop us a PM!

    Tabloids
    Vendettas
    Kleine Schweine

My bets on Allusondrugs. I think that would be deserved and they're great!

If curious, my band (Hora Douse) is also playing the same night as them (Saturday 5th July) and I am indeed selling tickets if anyone is feeling kind. xo

A minor point but it's bit cynical to complain about the venue keeping the bar takings. If it wasn't for venues keeping bar takings the entire live music scene of the last 100 years or more wouldn't exist. Bands would have hardly anywhere to play.
Centre Stage is already underway at the academy (yes ridiculous bar prices, which is partly what pays for massive PA/lights/crew for your little , unknown band) and there are usually a couple of other potential ins for any local "unsigned" band to have a go at, bypassing the usual promoter/agent politics that decide who fills the lower places down the bill at the bigger festivals. The main thing is that, regardless of cost, actually persuading all your friends/family to attend a gig is no mean feat and whatever your band sounds like, money at the box office or over the bar is the bottom line in these things, JUST LIKE IT IS FOR "PROPER GIGS".

Bring as many people as you possibly can, have fun and don't be a sore loser. That's the general attitude that might end up with a festival performance in front of "real" punters who haven't actually seen you before. Yeah of course its a handy way of Futuresound keeping one of their venues busy in the summer BUT this is less a "rip-off" and more just business..............Plus, without these competitions, and with Leeds festival booking all it's acts through London-based agents, how else are local "unsigned" bands supposed to get to play at the biggest local festival? The positives outstrip the negatives for me.

I don't have an issue with BOTBs as long as they deliver what they promise (most don't but Leeds is a bit of an exception due to unscrupulous promoters, who specialise in ripping off bands, traditionally being chased out of town)

The futuresound competition is ultimately good fun and you get to play to a good size audience with the outside possibility of getting to play R&L.

That's all it should be seen as - not a holy grail ticket to stardom or some sort of rip-off scheme. If you get to be one of the winners, it's just a great bonus of actually playing to a full room at an earlier stage in a bands lifespan.

    I want to call it now as;

    Allusondrugs
    Carnabells
    Tabloids
    Kleine Schweine
    Forever Cult
    Crybabycry

It'd be swell if people came and voted for OPL, we'll be hitting it with our best shot and getting people down for the gig though I always find it hard picturing myself as winning anything other than a tenner on a scratch card.

I'm going Saturday to the crybabycry/Those Delta Wolves night. Doing 11th July for Carnabells and Vendettas, the last night with Kleine Schweine and Leodis, and I'm hoping to also make the allusondrugs and tabloids nights
