Looks like nobody's gonna start this annual thread, so I will. I usually discover a thing or two from it that I like, so on that basis it's worth doing. Just screen out the usual noise.

Anyways, in no particular order, some stuff I have liked:

Jenny Hval & Susanna - Meshes of Voice
    The Raveonettes - Pe'ahi
Camera - Remember I Was Carbon Dioxide
    Gut und Irmler - 500m
Bob Mould - Beauty and Ruin
Stars - No One Is Lost

    Any more for any more?

With you on the Stars one.

Also Bill Bruises by New Pornographers

Not listened to enough new stuff this year!
  6. Did you hear the other album of originals they released even more recently this year: Inevitable Western?

    Its tremendous...

No, I didn't realise they had a newer one out. It's been a few years since I've paid them much attention - I stopped following them around the time of the vocal album, which I didn't like much. In many ways their original stuff is more interesting than the covers.
  8. They've done 3 more since then:

    2010: Never Stop
    2012: Made Possible
    2014: Inevitable Western

As well as the Rite of Spring in early 2014.e

There's gold on all of them:

I don't really listen to albums. I just like individual songs...There's always one or two shockers on an album.

Album of the year for me was easily Cloud Nothings, immediate cathartic rock. Favourite EP was The Lake Poets' Honest Hearts, beautiful sounding with a great turn of phrase.

Also really enjoyed Ryan Adams, King Creosote, War on Drugs, Pulled Apart By Horses, Eagulls, Interpol and Manics.

I haven't really got into the Cloud Nothings record. Loved "I'm Not Part Of Me" but found the rest a bit disappointing after Attack on Memory (one of my favourite LPs of the last 10 years). Maybe I should give it another chance...
