It's in the news today that Blackpool has been voted England's favourite seaside resort by Which? and it's readers, with Whitby coming in at number 3 and Scarborough at 5.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/10344837.stm
Now, I'm not a resort fan in general. There's way too much falseness too many people and too little normal life for me in your average resort and the only time I am prepared to visit any of them is when nobody else is there, out of season!
Are you a Blackpool fan?

I haven't been to blackpool in years! I'm going next weekend for a dog show so I'm quite looking forward to it!
I absolutely love Gt Yarmouth, I love the great big markets

Whitby. Love it.
Can't bear Blackpool though, except in an ironic sense, although I did once have a nice day on the Pleasure Beach.

I haven't been to Blackpool in years, it would be quite fun to visit it again. My favourite British seaside resort would probably be Lulworth cove, in Dorset, or more mundanely I do like Cleethorpes

Out of the three you mention Medusa, I'd definately go for Whitby - It's got a nice little harbour with fishing boats, not garish or spoilt (the only two amusement arcades are set right on the edge of town, nicely out of the way)
To be honest though, we nearly always head off to Somerset and the South East - we particularly like the area around Cheddar, the other deciding factor is the weather - even when it rains down there, it's warm rain that dries on you!

I do like Whitby, but I just don't like crushes of people so I wouldn't want to be in any resort when it's busy, so my choice would be a walk along Saltburn beach out of season with the dog.
I also love St Ives, Aberdovey and Bude, but in October or February rather than when everybody else is there.

Seems that most of West Yorkshire are at Hornsea, so that must be the place of choice for Leeds people?

Out of the three in the OP, I would say Whitby is the best of a bad bunch. Blackpool is dire.
Any resort in Cornwall would suit me (perhaps not Newquay though, bit too comercialised now). I just love Cornwall.

I lived in Cornwall for 8 years, visiting Newquay last month. The town is on its a*rse! Seems to be aimed at the hard drinking hen/stag party crowd. Lots of the hotels closed down and the whole place is rather smelly.

I took the kids there on a rainy day for the amusements a few weeks ago. I couldn't agree with you more kernow.
Padstow is my favourite, it never changes and is always well looked after. It's in a different class.

I have friends around the Falmouth area who have never been to Newquay, nor intend to! There is a high population of ex pat Brummy's in Newquay for some reason.
Personally I prefer West Cornwall if I visit!

It's the North for me. Sitting on Treyarnon bay on a sunny day watching the Alantic rollers coming in. Makes me feel like I am somewhere much further away and more exotic than blighty!
