Plans to grant pre-charge anonymity to men accused of rape have been dropped after protests from MPs on all sides. Is this the right decision?

No i don't think it is right, it has to be one of the worst crimes to inflict against anyone, but i cannot begin to imagine the grief caused by a false accusation, all parties should be anonymous until proved guilty, if found guilty they should be hung from the nearest lampost but if found innocent or have the charges dropped then their lives should not have been affected.

Dervish is absolutely right, the current process does need changing, it's grossly unfair to people who are falsely accused. I can't think of any disadvantage to granting anonymity to the accused until afterwards, if found guilty, - it shouldn't have adverse affects on people reporting genuine cases, or am I missing something?

Anonymity should be kept until proven/convicted IMO.

I know that means that some folks that probably are guilty but not proven will effectively 'get away with it' but I'd hate the idea of someone's life being ruined because of a false allegation.

Having said that, when a guy who is guilty would remain anon must be a kick to a genuine victim.
