Interesting question! I have, twice, and had a very pleasant time on both occasions, and have kept in touch, although not met up again, which is more down to time/being busy than anything (unless they are fobbing me off, lol!). Maybe I've been lucky, but I do think that if you communicate with someone online over time, you will get to know them well, and know if you would be able to be friends or not.

I have also heard tell of people being nothing like they are online though.

I have met couple of forum people (not from Leeds Forum I hasten to add) - but to be honest, I really like the mystery of people behind their usernames and avatars, and their alter egos (if they have one) I like being Draggletail too, and wonder what that image conjours up in peoples minds.

Makes me sound like a complete geek doesn't it I can assure you all I do really have a social life beyond forums!

Now - I'm of to the pub...

....where's my anorak

So do I.

In answer to your question, You do have a certain mystique about you (now you are no longer a mod on SF).

Your avatar puts me in mind of a character from Sin City(what a film!), not sure why, but you come across as being pretty cool.

What makes you think that DT isn't a mod on SF any more?

I've met lots of people through internet forums over the years and generally speaking it's been a mixed experience of lovely people, normal people, and the occasional strange one or stalker.

I will expand on this.

Some posters have a certain presence about them, they often get picked to be mods because of this presence. The moment they take on this role, they become bound by a set of rules which detracts from their true persona, sibon is a prime example.

It is a very common thing in the business world. Those who once ran with the pack, get promoted, see themselves as a cut above, and loose all perspective of where and who they are.

There is a guy on this forum who is very wise. He has done his own thing, made a damn good job of it, and still maintains his place amongst the pack.

Same here. Which catagory would you place yourself in?

This is true. You do develop a sense of who is wheat, and who is chaff.
This new age of technology will never mask basic human intuition, I hope!!

Yes, we all give ourselves away. I don't think people could ever pretend to be something they're not, online, certainly not over a sustained period of time. So, even the best of pretenders would not be able to keep up a facade.

Reader, beware, lol!

Did I ever tell you all about my mansion and my yachts..
