Hi all,
just wondering what the Armley area is like. Seen a place in stanningley place that looks nice, but I know nothing of the area. Is it safe first of all. I don't want to be moving to an area that doesn't feel safe when we are walking around at night. Also, how are the amenities, buses into town, bars, shops etc.
Been reading about chapel allerton a fair bit, apparently it's really nice. Wish I'd heard that sooner. I have to pick one of the places I'm viewing this weekend, and none are near chapel allerton.
Thanks in advance for any Armely info.
Adam.

I don't think there is a "Stanningley Place". Generally I would say if you can afford more then don't go to Armley. I'm not saying there is anything particularly wrong with it but there are nicer areas if you can afford them.

Armley is like any other area of Leeds, there is good and bad parts,
I own 2 houses in armley, 1 is in a very nice bit and the other isn't that good.

Whereabouts? I could not recall seeing it and it doesn't appear on Google maps. I also looked at Leodis to see if it was mentioned.

Does anyone have any more info on the place? Is there a nightlife scene at all? Or am I best avoiding that all together? Would you say heading into Leeds every time I fancy a swift pint or 9 is the best idea? I'm glad there are shops nearby by the sound of things.
Thanks for the info!

Armley is great - cheap housing (and some lovely houses), strong local community, lots of musicians live there, Armely Fun Day, I love west leeds festival, Leeds Jazz Club is in Armley (trad jazz, been there years), Interplay do lots of stuff with young people, Culture Vultures is based there too. Lots of pubs! Has it's downsides but so does every inner city location
nb Stanningley is not Armley - different sort of vibe, more suburban, mixed housing still OK though.

A roofing customer of mine, with a clearly marked vehicle, was told, while waiting for traffic lights to change, by a Polish feller,
that Armley was his area and to drive on. Also other 'rumours' heard regarding, Property repairs, Window cleaning and Ice cream vending.

I live on Tong Rd and never had problems so I assume you have to mix with certain people to be affected. I do see them loitering, but you can't blame them cos they will never change. You just have to avoid where they congregate such as off-licences and the likes of that KFC.
The downside is that there is hardly any play areas for the kids, so you will often need to drive carefully as there are many young families and the kids often travel much faster than cars in their push bikes and whatever they are using to chase each other.
But like with everything else, people are coping much better with the changes in regards to Eastern Europeans and whatever good or bad that they have brought to the area.

I lived in meanwood for 20 years and was glad to get away, drugs ,gangs and guns. Remember all the shootings a few years ago, meanwood and chapealerton. There is good and bad in. All areas, I think armley is ok, my dad lived there up until he died last year.
