At my old house we used to get young lads coming round in their tracksuits singing out of tune... it became a bit of a joke after a while as the frequency of their visits were too regular to be legitimate. Also, it probably cost us about £5 in gas every time we used to open the door to them as our old front door was straight onto the living room.

Lately in town there has been a guy playing an accordian, i've tipped him a couple of quid over the last week or so as the sound of his instrument is so different to the usual staples of the city centre such as:

- One man band and his dog (woooOOOoooOO woof woof mouth organ)
- Don Henley/JonnyCash-a-like (with a grey tash)
- Umpteen and one Katy Meluas
- Hat man who thinks he's Jack Penate

I have to admit I dont to beggars but do sometimes to buskers if there good. Double standards I know. There was a guy in town the other week singing Neil Diamond songs and he was fantastic and well worth a couple of bob...

I hated this guy, he used to stand on their tails to make them sing.

I miss the guy that used to just sing, he was brilliant. The bagpipe guy always make me regret that I don't have a knitting needle with me.

I don't think it is double standards, to some extent a good busker is earning what people give to him/her as they are providing entertainment. A beggar is either sat slumped on the ground with a coffee cup infront of him, or is being more agressive in coming up to people and asking for money.

My wife and I once had an old guy come up to us and asked for change to buy a cup of tea, it was freezing and he looked like he genuinly needed help so we went of and got him a hot drink and some food. Don't do it as often as perhaps my conscience would like but i don't think many on the streets deserve charity.

The guy that used to sing, was that Danny? always wore a light coloured jacket, usually round the back of M&S, he collected for charity.

not sure what his name was, he just had a crate and a bucket, stood on the crate and just started singing, normally around Christmas, so it could have been. I saw him at M&S, and Zara normally, sometimes down by Tesco.

I give on the whole. I know some say you shouldn't but I think at least when I go home that night I can sleep knowing I tried to do something nice. What they do with the money is their choice to live with
