Seriously though, I have met quite a few posters on SF through work. We would start chatting about what we liked to do in the evening. I never gave too much away, but many were keen to brag about how they had been arguing with someone the previous night on SF, and the fantastic put downs they had come up with!

I used to make mental notes of what they told me, then go and see if I could identify them on the forum! Great fun, and I identified at least two thirds of them!

I have also been on an organised walk with fellow posters, and had a great time, with great people.

My memory is shocking

I can see where you are coming from but I can’t totally agree with you, the anonymity of o a forum allows people to be open and honest where as in “real life” most people are guarded about what they say especially while in mixed company or when speaking to strangers.

Obviously there are those that choose to abuse the anonymity and keep the Mods busy which I assume are the ones you were thinking off.

I have seen debates on other forum’s suggesting people should use their real name or email address; if that was the case I feel they would lose their “edge” and end up being rather mundane.
